This outing is intended for crewmembers and their guests who desire and deserve an afternoon off the decks and a day ashore for some exercise, exploring, fun and hospitality. Damariscove Island is just three miles outside of Boothbay, but a timeless world away. Maintained trails offer great walks with sweeping views of the sea and other islands, and on this day the Shipyard Cup fleet.
We will pick you up at Wotton's Wharf in a lobster boat, then steam out to the island and get you ashore. Lunch is hosted by the "island girls", providing great food and local knowledge. In fact, these ladies spent Saturday of the 2007 cup ashore and thought this would be a fun offer to some visiting yachties, so the owners of the restored life saving station are opening their home to us.
You can learn more about the island and see images in this Nature Conservancy newsletter (PDF file), or http://www.boatmaine.us/damariscove-island.aspx
