Preparations underway for 2008 Shipyard Cup

July 10, 2008
The fleet for the seventh Shipyard Cup is starting to register, pulling their crews together and organizing their hotel & dockage reservations for what is shaping up to be a another great weekend in Boothbay, Maine on September 5,6 &7.

Kaetlin Parent, Miss Maine USA

To date the following yachts have signed up for a weekend of racing, great parties and hopefully the fantastic weather early September often delivers.

TENACIOUS is returning to defend her title. The majestic FREEDOM returns to see if she will win another race day or two! Both of the W-Class 76's WHITE WINGS & WILD HORSES will be here. SUMURUN returns to the waters so familiar to her Maine based captain. METOLIUS is back from her trip to Alaska and ready to show that in addition to being a great cruising boat she is also a fast Frers design. KATHRYNE GRACE's crew enjoyed last year so much they were the first to let us know they are returning. LION'S WHELP returns to claim her perpetual trophy as the fastest schooner. PATRIOT the beautiful and fastest of the Hinckley 70's returns as well. And it would not be a Shipyard Cup without the Watson family and their Ocean 80 TOO ELUSIVE, they have raced in every Shipyard Cup.

This year in addition to the racing, the Friday night Lobster Bake and the post race parties there are some new additions to the weekend. Friday in addition to golf at the Boothbay Country Club there is an outing to Damariscove Island; a beautiful island for walks, scenic vistas and lunch at the restored Life Saving Station. A lobster boat will pick up our guests at Wotton's Wharf and have them back to their yachts in plenty of time for the lobster bake in East Boothbay.

We are really excited to have Kaetlin Parent, Miss Maine USA, join us on Sunday for a sail and to hand out the prizes and trophies at the awards ceremony.
